Overview
Today, the amount of data available is growing and accumulating at an incredible growth rate, due to technological advancements. For its part, the cost of capturing it has been reduced thanks to the Internet, electronic commerce and many devices at points of sale. This data is usually accumulated in large warehouses. Data mining attempts to use all that data to turn it into a source of management information. Due to the aforementioned, it is a rapidly expanding field of knowledge regarding the development of techniques that facilitate decision-making. This group of techniques has been successfully applied in a series of sectors, such as fraud detection, CRM and stock portfolio analysis. The course will examine methods that have been proven useful for recognizing patterns and making predictions. Cases will be reviewed and techniques will be practiced in class thanks to appropriate software.
