    BRIEF DESCRIPTION

The profound development of tourism that we have experienced in recent times has led to a transformation in our approach to this phenomenon. Evidence of this is the process of consolidating tourism studies at the university level. This is because the university, through the generation of knowledge, must provide society and future professionals with tools to understand and manage the sector.

This subject stems from the need to approach tourism beyond simple definitions that do not clarify the complexity of the phenomenon. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt an interdisciplinary perspective and integrate multiple visions from academia, in order to generate a global understanding of the tourism phenomenon. In this way, the student will acquire the foundations for a transversal vision of tourism. This vision is fundamental today for future professionals and companies in a sector that increasingly tends towards responsibility and sustainability in a changing environment. Additionally, the knowledge acquired in this subject is essential for those who choose to work in academic research and teaching in tourism.

Ultimately, the subject is proposed as an instrument for discussion and transformation of the most traditional and immobile visions of tourism, aligned with the experience and research work carried out by CETT Barcelona School of Tourism, Hospitality, and Gastronomy in its various thematic areas and research groups.
